Mrs. Jane (Briggs) Sayers

July 25, 2010
 

Haverhill: Mrs. Jane (Briggs) Sayers, 80, a longtime resident of Haverhill, died Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Maplewood Care and Rehabilitation Center in Amesbury.

Born in Epping, NH and raised in Haverhill, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor (Wilmot) Briggs, and attended Saint James High School.

She was employed at Western Electric Co. in North Andover and later by MacGregor-Smith Transportation Co. as a van driver for handicapped children, and finally in the data entry department of Adams-Russell Electronics in Amesbury.

A former resident of Trestle Way in Georgetown, Mrs. Sayers was a former member of St. Mary’s Parish of Georgetown and Saint John the Baptist Parish of Haverhill.

She was an avid gardener and accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed decorating cakes for special occasions for local families and friends.

The wife of the late Robert A. Sayers, she is survived by a son, Robert A. Sayers, Jr., of Arkansas, and a son and daughter-in-law David A. and Mary Sayers, of New Ipswich, NH, three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Ronald Fournier, of Plaistow, NH, Marge and Fred Hooper of Haverhill, and Janet and Raymond Huber of Grasonville, MD, a sister Phyllis Douglas of Fryeburg, ME, twenty-two grandchildren, and many, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son George S. Sayers, her sisters, Theresa Sande, Mary Perkins, and Ruth Lambert and brothers, Buddy Klinch and James Briggs.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 9a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10a.m. in Saint John the Baptist Church, Lincoln Avenue, Haverhill. Carol A. (Harding) Miller

July 21, 2010
 

Merrimac, MA: Carol A. (Harding) Miller, 58, of Merrimac, died Wednesday evening, July 21, 2010, at the Merrimac Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Haverhill and raised in the Bradford section of the city, she was the daughter of Ralph Harding, Jr. and the late Mary (Lambert) Harding. She was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1969, and later graduated from MacIntosh Business School in Lawrence.

Mrs. Miller worked first as an operator for New England Telephone and later as a clerk at John Hancock Life Insurance Co. and Ritz Camera of Newburyport and finally was employed at Lucent Technologies.

A resident of Merrimac since 1994 and former resident of West Newbury she was an accomplished artist in oils and member of the Greater Haverhill Art Association.

She is survived by her husband of thirty-four years, Donald F. Miller, a son Benjamin D. Miller of Merrimac, her father, Ralph Harding, Jr. of Derry, NH, a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph III and Julie Harding of Haverhill, two sisters, Jean Harding of Haverhill and Susan Harding of Portsmouth, NH, five step-siblings, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, a great niece and a great nephew.

Mrs. M. Agatha "Aggie" (DeRoche) Melanson

Haverhill: Mrs. M. Agatha “Aggie” (DeRoche) Melanson, 98, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington.

Born in North Andover, daughter of the late Ephrem and Maryanne (Gallant) DeRoche, she was raised in Haverhill and attended St. James School. She was employed for many years in the Crystal Room of Western Electric Co., retiring in 1973.

A resident of Haverhill all of her life, Mrs. Melanson was a longtime winter resident of Bronson, Florida. She was a member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill, the former St. Joseph Parish, The Ladies of Saint Anne Society and the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was the sole surviving member of “The Rappie Pie Club” which met around several holidays for many years.

She enjoyed knitting, quilting, tatting, traveling, golfing and playing cards.

The widow of Albert J. Melanson, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Theresa Melanson of Lawrence, two daughters and sons-in-law, Pearl M. and Charles Freeman of Sweet Water, Alabama, and Jean F. and Geno Farnam of Moultonboro, NH, a brother Theodore DeRoche of Haverhill, three sisters, Angelina Sweeney, of Haverhill, Eleanor Hagarty of Nashua, NH, and Therese Publicover, of Lowell, also eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wayne R. Day

July 11, 2010
 

U.S. Flag Haverhill: Wayne R. Day, 77, of Haverhill, died on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the Hannah Duston Health Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

The son of the late Ernest and Martha (Todd) Day, he was born in Peterborough, NH, and was raised in Haverhill and attended local schools. A Korean War Veteran, he served from 1953 to 1957 in the United States Air Force and later went on to work in the local shoe industry. An avid Red Sox fan, Mr. Day was a resident of Haverhill for most of his life.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews and close friends.

Friends and relatives may call on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 from 2:00-3:00pm at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. A funeral service will follow at 3:15pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.


Mrs. Diana (Brown) Howes

Haverhill: Diana (Brown) Howes, 76, of Haverhill, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Facility in Haverhill, following a period of declining health.

Born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, daughter of the late Roger and Evelyn (Blaisdell) Brown, she was raised in Florida and later moved to Arlington, MA and Danville, NH, graduating from the former Sanborn Seminary in Kingston, NH.

A housewife and homemaker for most of her life, Mrs. Howes enjoyed Bible Studies. She was a resident of Acton, MA, from 1965 until 1988, later moving to Boxford, Groveland and Newburyport before relocating to Haverhill in 2008.

The wife of the late Bradford Howes, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Carl B. and Debrah Howes of Hudson, NH, a daughter, Linda L. Howes of Haverhill, two grandchildren, Ian Howes and Fionna Howes, a brother, Frank Brown of St. Petersburg, FL, a sister Beverly Brown of Newburyport, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mildred "Millie" (Moro) Blanchet

Amesbury, MA: Mildred "Millie" (Moro) Blanchet, 92 of Haverhill, died
peacefully on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Maplewood Harborside Nursing
Home.

Born June 23, 1918 in Malden, daughter of the late David and Katherine
(Altravista) Moro, she was raised and educated in Haverhill, where she
lived most of her life. She worked as a young woman in the local shoe
industry.

She enjoyed knitting, and baking for her grandchildren especially the
fudge for which she was well-known.

The wife of the late Victor J. Blanchet Sr., she is survived by a son
and daughter-in-law, Victor J., Jr. and Irene Blanchet of New Castle,
NH, a daughter and son-in-law, Gail M. and Thomas Thornton of Hampton,
NH., a sister Madeline "Dolly" George of Lawrence, grandchildren,
Michelle Stockman, David Blanchet, Jennifer Charyn, Kate Conrad,
Brennan Thornton, Victor J. Blanchet III, and Elizabeth Blanchet and
eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers Angelo and
Stanley Moro and sister Barbara Girard.

Mr. Theodore M. Iwanow

Haverhill, MA: Theodore M. Iwanow, 88, of Haverhill, died on Saturday, July 4, 2010, at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

Born on 02/02/22 in Stary Dwor, Poland, which is now currently part of Lithuania, he graduated from Stary Dwor agricultural high school. At the age of 18, he was taken to Germany and was forced into a work camp during World War II. After the war, he remained in Germany for ten years before immigrating to the U.S. where he met his beloved wife of 49 years, Teresa.

Mr. Iwanow worked as an electronics technician for Honeywell in Lawrence for 18 years before his retirement in 1985. A member of All Saints Parish, he was also a particiapnt in the St. Michaels choir and was a member of Haverhill’s Polaski Club. He also enjoyed gardening.

Besides his wife Teresa (Chylinski) Iwanow, Mr. Iwanow is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Piotr V. and Barbara Iwanow of Hopedale, MA, a daughter, Joanna M. Iwanow of Haverhill, two grandchildren, Natasha and Phillip Iwanow of Hopedale, MA as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Arline R. (Brouillard) Nolin

Haverhill, MA: Arline R. (Brouillard) Nolin, of Haverhill, died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Wingate at Haverhill.

Born and raised in Haverhill, daughter of Donat and Laure (Delaney) Brouillard, she attended St. Joseph School and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1942. She later went on to work for Western Electric where retired after 25 years of service.

A member of All Saints Parish, she was also a member of The Ladies of St. Anne as well as the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed line dancing, bingo and traveling to Foxwoods.

Predeceased by her husband Joseph G. Nolin, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Linda Nolin of Moultonboro, NH, two daughters and sons-in-law, Yvette and William Berthelotte of Nashua, Janet and Ray Champagne, of Haverhill, a sister-in-law, Priscilla Moore of Portsmouth, NH, 11 grandchildren, CMDR. Paul Berthelotte, OFC. Scott Berthelotte, MAJ. Joe Berthelotte, CAPT. Brian Berthelotte, OFC. Doreen Champagne, Timothy Nolin, Laura Hutchins, Marie James, Stephen Nolin, CAPT. Mark Berthelotte and LT. Brad Berthelotte, 18 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Richard J. Sanville

U.S. Flag Groveland: Richard J. Sanville, 84, a resident of Groveland since 1963 and formerly of Haverhill, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at the Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport, surrounded by his loving family and following a long illness.

Born in Haverhill, son of the late Albert and Catherine (Harrigan) Sanville, he attended Haverhill schools and was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1944. He served as a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II aboard the U.S.S. Bullinger, and took part in the Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He received the W.W.II Victory Medal and the American Area and Asiatic Pacific Area Medal with 1 Star.

Following his discharge from the service he attended Merrimack College and received his degree in Business Administration in 1959.

Employed in the Accounting Department and Department of New and Change at Western Electric, AT&T Technologies and Lucent Technologies, he retired in 1981 after thirty years of service.

He was a member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill, Christ the King Council of the Knights of Columbus, The Telephone Pioneers of America and the Lorraine Post of the VFW.

An avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, Mr. Sanville enjoyed studying Military History and vacation time at Lake Winnipesauke, and most of all, the time he spent with his four grandsons.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Claire (Meteyer) Sanville, two daughters, Cathy B. and her husband, Robert F. Willette, Jr. of Salisbury, and Anne Marie Berardi of Georgetown and her partner, Bradford Simmons of Plaistow, NH, four grandsons, Erik T. Willett, Kyle R. Willett, Joseph D. Berardi, Jr., and Daniel J. Berardi, two sisters, Mary Murphy of Lowell and Janet Duff of Groveland, also several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Louis Joseph Anselm Thibodeau

U.S. Flag HAVERHILL: Louis Joseph Anselm Thibodeau, 90, of Haverhill, died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 23, 2010. Mr. Thibodeau was born June 10, 1920 in Haverhill. He was the son of the late Philomene (Comeau) and Ferdinand Thibodeau, both of Nova Scotia.

Louis attended St. Joseph Grammar School for boys when its faculty was comprised of the Marist Brothers. He was a 1939 graduate of Haverhill High School. A veteran of World War II, he served from 1942 to 1946 in the Army Medical Corps, then as an Army Air Force Radio Approach Control Operator in the South Pacific.

A member of All Saints Parish and the former St. Joseph Parish, Louis was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Holy Name Society. He was the last Commander of the Franco American War Veterans Post No. 2 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 29.

Louis was an accomplished carpenter and cabinetmaker, having worked in many homes and businesses throughout the Haverhill area for over 50 years. He became an avid bowler when he was seventy years old and belonged to a number of area leagues. He was a card player who also never turned down a game of dominoes or checkers, and he had an interest in genealogy.

Mr. Thibodeau is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille (Benoit) Thibodeau and his daughters and sons-in-law, Carmen and Thomas Proulx of Norwalk, CT; Carol and Ernest Vincent of Windham, NH and Cathy Thibodeau and Jeffrey Simone of Ledyard, CT; his grandchildren, Jennifer Tingents of Norwalk, CT; Brian Vincent of Auburn, NH; Mark Vincent of Boston, MA; David Vincent of New York City; Elaine Simone of Ashburn, VA and Adam Simone of Pittsburgh, PA; and his brother, Albert Thibodeau of New Britain, CT.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 10 AM at All Saints Church, Haverhill. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill. Mrs. Estelle J. (Pecci) Matthew

Windham, NH: Mrs. Estelle J. (Pecci) Matthew, 82, a resident of Windham, NH and a former longtime Haverhill resident, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House.

Born and raised in Haverhill, daughter of the late Antonio and Angelina (Parino) Pecci, she was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1946, and later graduated from Winslow College in Boston.

Mrs. Matthew was employed for many years as a mortgage specialist at Merrimack Valley Bank of Haverhill, working primarily at the Main St., Monument Square branch until her retirement.

She was a longtime member of All Saints Parish and the former St. George’s Parish, and was active with the Women’s Guild of the parish. Mrs. Matthew was presently a member of St. Matthew’s Parish of Windham and the Windham Women’s Club.

She enjoyed a good joke, bowling, playing cards,traveling,and was an avid Red Sox fan. Some of her greatest enjoyments included spending time at her second home in Dennisport, MA, and the wonderful times that she spent with her family.

The wife of the late James J. Matthew, who died in 1989, she is survived by, a daughter,Donna L and son in law,John C. Conant,of Windham, with whom she resided, a son and daughter-in-law, James C. and Risa Matthew of Atlanta, Georgia, a brother John Pecci, of Haverhill, three grandchildren, Gregory J. Conant of Stoneham, MA, Kimberly L. Conant of Derry, NH, and Sam A. Matthew of Chicago, Ill, two great-grand-daughters, Kelsey and Morgan Conant, a niece, Joanne (Pecci) Anderson of Plaistow, NH, and a nephew, Anthony Pecci of Haverhill.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Merrimack Valley Hospice House of Haverhill for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Matthew during her final days as well and the many kindnesses extended to the family during this difficult time.

Mrs. Ludia (Uzuck) Mahoney

Haverhill: Mrs. Ludia (Uzuck) Mahoney, 93, a former longtime resident of Haverhill, died Wednesday morning, June 16, 2010 at the Maple Leaf Health Care Center in Manchester, NH.

Born in Haverhill, daughter of the late Paul and Frances (Hulbuka) Uzuck, she attended schools in Haverhill and in Amesbury, where she lived for several years. She was employed as a liner in the local shoe industry and retired from G.R. Swartz Co. of Haverhill.

The wife of the late Francis J. Mahoney, who died in 1998, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ludia F. and Michael Wiggin of Clearwater, Florida, a grandson and his wife, Brian and Brandy Penta of Clearwater, a great-grand-daughter, Sonora Penta of Clearwater, two sisters, Helen Pazanese of Haverhill and Sentla Zeidman of Amesbury, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Olga Shapiro.
